SUMMARY:Experience Virtual Reality: Reality's Fugue
DESCRIPTION:Interested in experiencing virtual reality? \nJoin author author Samuel Brainard to learn about the creation of this philosophical VR experience\, and spend about 10 minutes experiencing a VR world that blends music\, art\, and philosophical thought. Participants will be seated in chairs and monitored throughout the session. \nRegistration required! Register here. \nLocation: Library Gallery \nDate: Thursday\, June 13th \nTime: 6:30-8:30 PM \nAge Group: Adults of all ages \n\n  \nIn collaboration with Northeastern University Professor David Tames\, author F. Samuel Brainard\, area artists and Bucks County Community College technical interns\, Reality’s Fugue is a participatory experience of the creation story\, combining art and philosophy to illustrate our shared world. It showcases the history of this technology along with the process of the show’s production as well as an opportunity to put on a headset and step into Reality’s Fugue. \nReality’s Fugue was recently submitted to the 2024 University Film & Video Association Conference and was accepted for the New Media exhibition with Peer Review. \nYou can find F. Samuel Brainard’s book\, Reality’s Fugue: Reconciling Worldviews in Science\, Religions\, and Philosophy\, on the public catalog here. \n  \n  \n\nOVERVIEW\nBrainard\, in his book Reality’s Fugue: Reconciling Worldviews in Science\, Religions\, and Philosophy\, asserts that a puzzle lies at the center of everything we’re aware of. It hides the true nature of ourselves and the fundamental nature of the universe we live in. \nThis approach challenges the exclusionist notion that only one worldview can be correct. It presents an alternative mode of understanding using Douglas Hofstadter’s metaphor of a musical fugue. Different “voices” and “melodies” of worldviews coexist in counterpoint and conversation. At the same time\, each perspective remains distinct; none is privileged. \nReality’s Fugue: Genesis immerses participants in a virtual world that provides a new take on the Genesis origin story to illustrate how we create a shared world\, and we hope it catalyzes conversation. \n  \nCREDITS\nProduced and Directed by F. Samuel Brainard and David Tamés \nContributing Artists: Aurelle Sprout\, Carol Cruickshanks\, Stacie Speer Scott\, Susanne Davis \nDeveloper: Patrick Nugent \n3D Artists: Katerina Pak and Patrick Nugent \nComposer:  Linda Erickson \nNarration: Jenny Paschall \nNarrator: Fran Pearlman \nTechnical Consultants: Danger Donaghey\, Oscar Keyes\, Matt Seibert \nSpecial Thanks: New Hope Arts Center\, Stanley Timek\, Bucks County Community College\, Jeffrey Jacobson\, Carol Parker\, Susan Bindig\, Elizabeth A. Stier\, Ryan Murray\,  Celia Pearce\, Jonny Ouk\, Immersive Media Lab (College of Arts\, Media and Design\, Northeastern University) \nREALITY’S FUGUE – GENESIS\nIt is commonplace to believe that who we are—our true nature—is anchored in our individuality and our uniqueness. Reality’s Fugue\, the book\, and the virtual reality experience argue that our true nature is not so easily explained. A puzzle lies at the heart of everything we know; we are not just individuals\, we are both individuals and collective beings\, both one and many at the same time. \nREALITY’S FUGUE – GENESIS is a story about this puzzle. \n  \n“A puzzle within a puzzle;\nThe gateway to the ultimate mysteries.” \n  \n— Tao te Ching\, chapter 1\n  \nRead more here!

SUMMARY:Literati Library Book Club - Good Lord Bird by James McBride
DESCRIPTION:This month’s book is Good Lord Bird by James McBride \n“Henry Shackleford is a young slave living in the Kansas Territory in 1857\, when the region is a battleground between anti- and pro-slavery forces. When John Brown\, the legendary abolitionist\, arrives in the area\, an argument between Brown and Henry’s master quickly turns violent. Henry is forced to leave town—with Brown\, who believes he’s a girl. \nOver the ensuing months\, Henry—whom Brown nicknames Little Onion—conceals his true identity as he struggles to stay alive. Eventually Little Onion finds himself with Brown at the historic raid on Harpers Ferry in 1859—one of the great catalysts for the Civil War. \nAn absorbing mixture of history and imagination\, and told with McBride’s meticulous eye for detail and character\, The Good Lord Bird is both a rousing adventure and a moving exploration of identity and survival.” \nTo sign-up email staff@lambertvillelibrary.org or call 609-397-0275 \n\n\nDate 11/07/2023 (Tue.)\n\n\n\n\nTime 7:00PM – 8:30PM EDT\n\n\nLocation Gallery
