Andrew Budwig

Position:

Term Ends:

Andrew is from El Paso, Texas, where his nanny taught him Spanish before he learned English. He received his BA from Stanford University and his PhD from the University of Chicago, where he studied musicology after a year in Madrid as a Fulbright Scholar. Andrew taught a variety of subjects in boarding schools for fourteen years before joining a software company, where he worked mostly with clients from Latin America. He currently volunteers at Fisherman’s Mark and tutors students, ages five to forty, at the library.

For the past three years I have been studying Chinese to gain a greater appreciation of my favorite book, Dao De Jing. Years ago, I went through phases of reading French authors (such as Balzac, Maupassant, and Flaubert) and Latin American authors (such as Vargas Llosa, Cortázar, García Márquez). I’ve been to libraries all over the world–they are my second home.
