Guidelines
- Library Notaries are not attorneys licensed to practice law and may not give legal advice.
- Library notaries are scheduled during the Library’s hours of operation.
- Notary Service is not available in the fifteen (15) minutes prior to the time of closing.
- Notaries are also unable to provide Signature Guarantees, Medallion Signatures or Medallion Signature Guarantees.
- NJ law requires that notaries must be able to read documents being notarized and be able to communicate directly with the person requesting the service. Library Notaries cannot notarize documents written in languages unfamiliar to them.
- You must wait to sign your document until you are in front of the Notary. Library Notaries will not notarize a document if it has already been signed.
- All document signers must personally appear before the notary.
- Library Notaries cannot pre-date or post-date a signature.
- Library Notaries will not provide service if the customer, document, or circumstances of the request for notary service raise any issue of authenticity, ambiguity, doubt, or uncertainty. In this event, the Library Notary may decline to provide notary service.
