Pop in to the Pop-up

We have an excellent City Hall. When they knew we were looking for a place to have a pop-up library, they jumped right in and offered two spaces. One is downtown at the Justice Center for kid programs and other activities. I heard that the Mah Jong group is going strong, but I have yet to stop by. But the other space is right here at City Hall. It’s a lovely, open space, which we promptly filled. Jen and Danielle have done so much complicated, nonstop work to make this happen, and I am gobsmacked at how perfect it has turned out to be. I shouldn’t be, though, as they regularly work miracles.
We brought over all the books from the new book shelves, and I took a couple of boxes on my way out from the library. A G box and an E box. So if you like Robert Galbraith or Louise Erdrich, you are in luck! Plus, books are being returned so there new choices every day. I am so glad to have seen so many of you stopping by! The computers and the printers are getting used regularly, and we even fulfilled a notary need the other day.
The littlest kids come in to get new books, and some are a little bit confused. “Where are the toys?” we had one little guy ask. He was a little disappointed when he figured out that the toys were not happening and that he couldn’t go upstairs, but he came up with a great idea. When we see him next, he will have toys with him, because he wants to show them the new library. We have such wonderful kids and their families coming in to the library, and it’s wonderful to see them still coming here to the pop-up.
Sure, one day we’ll be moving back to the library building, but right now, I’m so grateful for this warm, welcoming space.
See you in the stacks!

Big Changes at the Library!

With so much thanks to an army of volunteers, staff, and board members, the library was packed up and ready for renovations in an amazingly short time. With breathtaking speed, volunteers came in and packed up the books according to a system that will let us locate any book and the shelf where it belongs after we come back. Honestly, I am so impressed with it all. We are truly blessed to have so many amazing and capable and generous friends here. See you in the stacks! /Annie

“Cook What you Have”

It’s no secret that I love cookbooks. I probably love them more than I love cooking, but cooking is a close second. Here at the library, we try to provide a broad base of cookbooks, from classics, to regional, and sometimes the downright unusual. But sometimes a cookbook comes along that is a real standout. And we have a new one, just in. Christopher Kimball’s “Cook What you Have.” See you in the stacks /Annie
