The Lambertville library has a lot of treasures. A lot of them. Rare books, the art book collection, the gallery space upstairs…so many, too many for just one blog post. This picture is of two of the treasures we have here! This is Franta, custodian and curator of the book sale. She is a treasure! She has been curating the book sale for years, and has it down to a science. Her system is precise, and she can tell you if we have a particular book in the sale or not, and mostly can just swoop in to find any book as requested. She has begun to teach me her system, and I can definitely see the logic and patterns to it.
Franta also spends many hours researching the more esoteric book donations. Our Michael Lewis art book collection has benefited from her diligence. If we already have a high-value book, she will price the donation, but put it on the special finds shelf of the book sale for the low price of only ten dollars. These books are often worth so much more, but Franta’s mission is to get books into the hands of readers! She also organises the free book offerings, located on the side porch. Yes indeed, there is a system there as well.
But Franta is so much more than books. She has a warm heart, and makes all visitors to the library feel welcomed. She runs two books clubs, both long-running and very popular. She puts in a lot of extra hours, and you can often see her riding her bike here on the weekends, coming to make sure we aren’t swimming in a sea of the excellent donations we are so fortunate to receive. She makes us all feel loved here, and we love her right back! Cheers to you, Franta!
See you in the stacks!
