Walt Jiménez

Position: Trustee

Term Ends: 12/31/28

Walt Jiménez is a first-generation Cuban American born and raised in Union City, New Jersey, where he lived on the same street as the city’s free public library. The many childhood hours spent in that building full of wonders helped foster Walt’s lifelong love of books, learning, and libraries. A resident of Lambertville since 2022, Walt has degrees from New York University and Rutgers University and is a former educator who has spent most of his career in the field of educational assessment. His two favorite people in the world are his very grown, very adult children, and he is easy to spot in town while walking his gangly white-and-black greyhound, Catmando.

It is impossible for me to choose one favorite book of all, but I find that my love of poetry is unshakable, and I return again and again to the work of poets who have enriched my life immeasurably. Some of my favorite poets are Rainer Maria Rilke, Jorge Luis Borges, Walt Whitman, Claribel Alegría, Louise Glück, and Jorie Graham.
